Last week students finished up our browser discussion. We did an exercise in Microsoft PowerPoint where we created a Venn diagram to compare and contrast Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox. To further explore PowerPoint the students were asked to compare and contrast three people in their class using a Venn diagram. This week we will create some computer lab Google Accounts and explore Google Drive and Google Docs for collaboration. Students will be asked to pick a partner across the room to collaboratively write a story with based on a writing prompt. The students will not be allowed to speak verbally, but are only communicate through email, instant messaging and Google documents to complete a story.
Last week the 5th and 6th grade students began working in Microsoft Word. Our activity included Mystery Suitcase. Students were asked to begin typing a story in Microsoft Word. The twist to the story was twofold. The first twist was that every 10 minutes the student was asked to move computers to work on another student's story. The second twist was at each change a mystery item was pulled from the suitcase. This item must be incorporated into the story in some way. The 5th graders worked with Vaseline, popsicle sticks and a balloon. The 6th graders found a cotton ball, spoon, Vaseline and Fruit Loops in their suitcase. You may wonder how this could possibly apply to Technology class. This activity required the class practice on keyboarding skills while also allowing them to become familiar with Microsoft Word. It also required the students to think creatively in a short amount of time. We will begin to discuss basics of formatting in Microsoft Word.
Our lower elementary students are continuing to focus on being responsible digital citizens. This week we will discuss giving proper credit to creators of original work.
We look forward to sharing our original works with you.
